White Butterfly Discus

The White Butterfly Discus is among the most ethereal and visually striking strains ever developed — a near-pure white fish with delicate, translucent fins that flutter like butterfly wings as it glides through the water column. The body is a clean, luminous white with minimal markings, while the extended dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are diaphanous and softly rounded, giving the fish an almost ghostly elegance that makes it the centerpiece of any Discus display tank.

This strain is the product of extensive selective breeding for both white coloration and extended finnage. Achieving both traits simultaneously in a single fish is exceptionally difficult — many white Discus have standard finnage, and many long-finned varieties carry pigmentation. Care requirements include a minimum 75-gallon aquarium for a small group, with water temperature maintained between 82 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit and pH between 6.0 and 7.0. This makes the White Butterfly both a beautiful display fish and an effective biological indicator for tank health.

The extended fins are more prone to damage than standard-length fins, so avoid sharp decorations and aggressive tankmates. Smooth driftwood, rounded stones, and live plants are ideal. Feed Discus-specific pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and beef heart preparations two to three times daily.
